Responsible and ethical business practices
It is well known that employees are an important resource to organizations and a factor of overall corporate sustainability. It should be no surprise that the health and safety of employees in the workplace should also be considered a sustainability topic—after all, no one is disposable nor is our planet! The Earth provides us with materials that we are fortunate enough to use in the operations of our business and we believe that responsible resource use is crucial to maintaining a healthy planet. The products and services that we create contribute to the health and safety of employees, benefiting families and communities for generations to come.
Helping to reduce waste output and environmental impact
Blackline GPS is proud to be reducing the environmental impact it has on the Earth in whatever manageable efforts we can. We have been improving our choice of methods and materials used in the operation of our business.
Manufacturing of our products
Blackline manufactures and refurbishes its products on-site locally in Calgary Alberta, Canada, contributing to the local economy.
The physical materials we use for our products are sourced from local, environmentally sensitive producers as much as possible. All electronic components purchased are certified Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). This means that we only use components that are free from Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Hexavalent chromium (Hex-Cr), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). Blackline does not use any components that make use of these dangerous substances, which have historically been commonly used in electronic equipment.
Recycle Blackline products that have reached end-of-life
We encourage customers to recycle used Blackline products through locally available electronic recycling organizations. Alternatively, these products can be returned to Blackline at the end of their useful life so that we may manage responsible recycling.
Optional recycling for employees
In 2013 Blackline began utilizing the services of local recycler BluPlanet Recycling and now collects incoming cardboard, plastics 1 – 7, metals, glass, all types of paper, refundable beverage containers, electronics, and organic food wastes. Blackline also recycles materials from manufacturing processes including used batteries, circuit boards, and plastic enclosures.
Powered by green energy
In 2014, Blackline joined the bullfrogpowered community by choosing 100% green electricity by BullFrog Power® for its day-to-day operations.
